Attila Durak traveled around Turkey for several years to photographically document the country's ethnic, religious and cultural diversity.

The starting point of his Ebru project was his “search for the answer to only one question: Who are these Turkish people?” He lived together with the people he photographed and shared their celebrations; he constantly asked them how they saw themselves and took their answers down as the titles for his photographs. With his photographies, Durak invites us to discover today's Turkey. His portraits tell the individual and social stories of those portrayed. "There is something else in these photos which might not be so obvious“, the photographer Attila Durak says; "in a world based on discrimination because of people's ethnicity, religion and 'race', a single word defining cultural identity can be a precursor of serious conflict.“

The Ebru exhibition takes place within the framework of the 2010 Turkish-German Culture Weeks under the patronage of the Lord Mayor of the City of Munich, Mr. Christian Ude.
